Poor People, Rich Food! -Crepes

Who says you have to eat ramen noodles and corn flakes because you live on a tight budget? Put a little pride in your cuisine and challenge yourself to make something fantastic out of kitchen staples!

This weeks featured treat on a budget is a recipe I found at Allrecipes.com, one of my favorite recipe meccas. All recipes are rated on a five-star scale, include photos of the finished product, and have useful comments to help you along. If you ever need a recipe, Allrecipes.com is a great place to go.

These crepes are perfect for a Sunday breakfast, lunch or even non-traditional dinner!

*note: In this recipe, it is better to combine all wet ingredients and then add dry ones. If you mix the eggs and flour first, your batter will be lumpy instead of smooth.

It’s no wonder this simple recipe has a 4 1/2 star rating! It’s quick, simple, and uses only flour, eggs, milk, salt, water and butter! Then, you can fill these great crepes with whatever you can imagine! Maybe you’d like them with steamed veggies, fresh fruit, ham and eggs topped with hollandaise sauce…the sky is the limit! My personal favorite is fruit crepes. Strawberry crepes with whipped cream, or peach crepes with cinnamon, nutmeg and whipped cream.

Cost comparison:

Estimated cost to make these crepes with strawberries and whipped cream for 4 people: $4.00
Approximate cost to buy strawberry crepes for 4 people at a restaurant :
$24.00

You save $20 by making your own!!!

So, who wouldn’t want to save  $20.00?! You also get to make it exactly the way you like it, with ingredients that you know are fresh! No drive, no tip, and now you can eat rich on a budget! The only downside is doing your own dishes :-)
